Nyeri is one of the most respected coffee growing regions of Kenya. It is situated North of Nairobi in the Aberdene Mountains of Kikuyuland. From here you can see the peak of Mount Kenya above the horizon, 70 miles to the north. Nyeri District prior to Kenyan independence from Britain in 1963, was called South Tetu. Farms are small, often less than 200 trees, and range in altitude from 1650 – 1700m (about 6,415 – 5,575 ft). The farmers deliver their coffees to collection centers, where they are prepared for the auctions held weekly in Nairobi.
Gillies Kenya Fancy Mark is always a Grade AA (17/18 Screen) or an AB (15/16 screen). The AB, which is a slightly smaller bean than an AA, often proves to be a a comparable cup, at a better value. In these times of economic upward pressure on coffee prices It is a blessing when we find an AB that suits our standards.
