KENYA
Nyeri is one of the most respected coffee growing regions of Kenya. It is situated North of Nairobi in the Aberdene Mountains of Kikuyuland. From here you can see the peak of Mount Kenya above the horizon, 70 miles to the north. Nyeri District prior to Kenyan independence from Britain in 1963, was called South Tetu. Farms are small, often less than 200 trees, and range in altitude from 1650 – 1700m (about 6,415 – 5,575 ft). The farmers deliver their coffees to collection centers, where they are prepared for the auctions held weekly in Nairobi. This coffee is a Grade AB. Our Kenya AB grade (15/16 screen) is a slightly smaller bean than an AA, and which I regard as providing a comparable cup, and a better value.
We recommend a darker than standard roast, known in the New York trade as "Vienna." (Agtron 35-40)
