About this Item

Before there was tea, there was great coffee from Ceylon's Gambala, Dumbara, Katmale, and Pussellawa districts. The world of Ceylonese Coffee ended in 1869, when the first episode of rust disease (Himilea Vestitrix) on record attached the trees. Though tea was being planted on Ceylon; in the 1840's prior to coffee's demise, it was in coffee's wake that the island became the incubator of a great new tea culture. Today, Kenelworth, in the town of Ginigathena, on the foothills of Sri Lanka's western mountains, in the Nuwara Eliya region, at elevations of 1900-2100 feet (579-640m) is famous for its well prepared and flavorful teas. The long, wiry, black leaves of this Ceylon Kenilworth Estate tea produce a deep amber cup with an excellent body and a slightly sweet taste. An elegant tea with a floral nose reminiscent of roses.
