Native to Eastern and Southern Asia, Chinese legends indicate the invention of the tea beverage may date back 6-thousand years, and the first recorded tea drinking dates to the 10th Century BC. The American experience with tea dates from colonial times, but then there was that unpleasantness in Boston Harbor in 1773 that changed the course of history, and the course of American drinking habits. In more recent years we have seen a new interest in tea in the United States both in traditional English style teas, tisanes, herbals, and red bush (Rooibos) teas. There is also an effort among American tea lovers to educate ourselves about traditional Japanese and Chinese tea culture, as well as the newer Masala Chai culture of India. As with our coffees, Gillies tea selection is diverse without being overwhelming. We offer a representative sampling from some of the world’s great tea gardens, and origins for you to share with your customers.
