GREEN COFFEE Ethiopia Shegitu (Harar Type) Mocha GR4 (25LB Box)

THE MYSTERIOUS MASKED COFFEE of ETHIOPIA

It is traditional for coffees to take their name from the places where they grow, as Sumatra, or the port of embarkation as Santos. On occasion a coffee may have a name created by a trader, as Harar Horse (of recent memory). Shegitu is one of these. Shegitu is a registered trademark with the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade. The Exporter is Haicof, Addis Abba. Founded in 1966.

It is said Shegita means Beautiful in Amharic. And, that the coffee is a blend. The thing is that no amount of questions posed to US dealers in the item, nor inquiry to the Ethiopian government trade desk in New York has been favored with a response that satisfies the inquiring mind. In the age of transparency, this coffee is masked in mystery. The cup is delicious prompting us to want to thank the stranger, asking, “Who was that masked coffee?”

The cup is of a Harar style; a masculine brew with a dry edgy quality, a heavy body, and a fruitiness in the nose that reminds many of blackberry.  We recommend a rich dark roast.  -DNS, coffeeman
